To achieve this Certificate of Qualification applicants are required to pass a supervised examination. The intent of the examination is to verify the applicants knowledge and understanding of, and/or ability to use:

- Z662 Terminology
- Z662 Reference Documents
- Section 3 – Management Systems
- The differences between a Z662 Safety and Loss Management System and a Z662 Integrity Management Program
- Function of acts and regulations
- Function of reference documents
- Function of company policy
- The Roles and Responsibilities of Pipeliners with various competencies (Designer, Constructor, Operator, Inspector etc.)
Applicants will be provided copies of the applicable Z662 sections for use during the exam. Applicants are permitted to use hardcopy reference material from training courses. Electronic devices are not permitted to be used during the exam.
Prerequisites and Equivalencies:
There are no prerequisites required for this CPAC Level 1 qualification. Applicants are advised to have had some type of formal training prior to writing the exam. Training from industry publications and information sessions, online training courses, and lecture series may also be suitable.
